AONTAS

Kilroy's College established since 1932, is a member of AONTAS the Irish National Association of Adult Education, a voluntary membership organisation that was founded in 1969. It exists to promote the development of a learning society through the provision of a quality and comprehensive system of adult learning and education which is assessable to all.

AONTAS's strategic objectives are as follows:

  • To ensure the promotion adult and community education as a key part of lifelong learning
  • Developing policy in the areas of adult education, civil society and lifelong learning
  • Helping members to operate effectively in the growth and development of the adult education service
  • Developing AONTAS as a learning organisation

Kilroy's College, as a member, promotes the importance of adult education as a key part of lifelong learning. AONTAS influences the development of policy and lobbies on behalf of the sector. It facilitates networking among members and supports their work. AONTAS also provides an information referral service to adult learners, collects data on developments in the sector and undertakes research.

The One Step Up website and helpline has been developed and is managed by AONTAS, the National Adult Learning Organisation, on behalf of the Department of Education and Skills and a Steering Committee.

The One Step Up campaign aims to help adults to enhance their learning by promoting access to learning opportunities for all adults, a Freephone Helpline, and a calendar of learning events.
